On TSI engines (the applicable platform), the factory airbox prioritizes quiet operation and restricts airflow. The RacingLine direct intake kit replaces it with a high-performance cold-air system, developed on Volkswagen Racing race cars, to free up engine breathing and gain torque and throttle response.

What a RacingLine direct intake changes

By drawing cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay and routing it to the turbo along a smooth path, airflow increases noticeably (up to +9%) and the turbo responds earlier. It is one of the first modifications to consider on a tuned vehicle, alone or combined with a Stage 1 ECU tune.
