More power, more heat, more stress on the timing system: on a built engine, the original belt becomes the weak point. Gates developed its RPM range to address exactly this problem. This is the home turf of the Gates Racing RPM range (Racing, Performance, Muscle): timing belts designed to keep up with high-performance engines.

Three key construction elements

• HNBR composite: HNBR rubber (HSN compound) resists heat and degradation from engine fluids (oil, fuel) far better than standard belt rubber.
• Aramid cords: roughly 5 times stronger than steel at equal weight, they absorb the torque spikes generated by a forced induction engine without stretching or losing timing.
• Nylon-reinforced toothed fabric: reinforces the junction between the teeth and the belt body, the point that wears first under repeated shocks (downshifts, rapid rev changes).
