A performance air filter is the first modification in any engine tuning project. Replacing the stock paper filter with a high-density oiled cotton element from BMC or Dynaparts improves airflow without modifying the factory airbox. These filters are washable and reusable, with unlimited service life when cleaned every 80,000 km.

A direct intake kit goes further by completely replacing the airbox with a performance intake routed toward a source of cool air. The gain is more noticeable on turbocharged engines, where cooler air improves charge density and reduces the risk of knock. Two brands stand out for quality: CTS Turbo and RacingLine.
