RacingLine VWR1230S3 Direct Intake Kit - Audi S3 8P 2.0 TFSI

On 2.0 TFSI EA113 engines (turbo K04), the original air box is designed primarily for noise reduction and filtration, at the expense of airflow. As soon as power is increased, it becomes a real bottleneck. The RacingLine direct intake kit replaces the entire original assembly with a high-performance cold air system, developed and validated on Volkswagen Racing race cars.

How this direct intake works

The principle is simple: draw cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay, then route it to the turbo by the most direct and smooth path possible. As a result, airflow increases by up to 9% and the K04 turbo builds boost faster. Cool air is richer in oxygen: at the same boost pressure, the engine produces more torque, and the turbo responds faster to throttle input. It is one of the first modifications to make on a 2.0 TFSI performance build, either on its own or combined with ECU tuning.

What real power gain can be expected?

On its own, a direct intake delivers a modest but real gain (often a few horsepower and, above all, better response). Its main benefit is removing the restrictive original air intake to let the engine breathe. The real gain appears once it is combined with ECU tuning, where the original intake restricts the air inlet.

Does the engine sound change much?

Yes, you gain a richer, more prominent intake sound during acceleration and on overrun, while remaining contained by the closed housing. This is not a shrill open-air filter: the sound remains balanced and tasteful.

Should the filter be maintained?

Yes. The Trifoam filter should be cleaned and re-oiled roughly every 16,000 km with the dedicated RacingLine oil and cleaning kit. A dirty or poorly oiled filter loses performance and filtration efficiency.
