Golf 7 and 7.5 R: which Milltek exhaust system should you choose?
Golf 7 R and 7.5 R: What You Need to Know
The Golf 7 R and 7.5 R use a 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine. The 7.5 is an evolution of the 7: depending on the production date, the exhaust configuration can differ, notably with or without a gasoline particulate filter. Before ordering, check your version with your VIN.
The Three Main Options
- The cat-back exhaust: the section after the catalytic converter, which determines most of the sound.
- The downpipe: it improves flow and complements a Stage 2 ECU tune.
- The full exhaust system, which combines both.
Resonated or Non-Resonated?
The resonated version limits drone and is well suited to daily driving. The non-resonated version gives a rawer, more present sound. The choice depends on how you drive: highway and everyday use, or a car driven for fun.
Road Legal or Motorsport?
For a Golf R driven on the road, choose a homologated part number that retains the emissions control components. Less restrictive versions are for motorsport use only. Each part number's description states this.
Which System for Your Use?
- Daily driving: resonated, homologated cat-back exhaust, discreet and comfortable on long trips.
- Road and fun: non-resonated or valved cat-back exhaust for more character.
- Stage 2 or motorsport: downpipe suited to ECU tuning, motorsport version.
